In addition to our state-of-the-art experiment and test facilities, Sandia's high-performance computing capabilities are vital tools for our mission responsibilities in stockpile surveillance, certification, and qualification. We operate remote-testing sites for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration and provide on-site scientific expertise at several DOE facilities. The diversity of our locations supports broader national security work and our ability to address the nation's most challenging security issues — nonproliferation, counterterrorism, energy resources, and transportation.

As part of the five-year multi-institution DOE/SciDAC project PISCEES, Sandia has developed a land-ice simuluation code that has been integrated into DOE's Accelerated Climate Model for Energy earth system model for use in climate projections. The Albany/FELIX code enables the calculation of initial conditions for land-ice simulations, critical for stable and accurate dynamic simulations of ice sheet evolution and the quantification of uncertainties in 21st century sea level rise. With NASA, the team has successfully validated simulations in comparison to actual Greenland ice sheet measurements.
